The Brief:
Turn operational capacity into scalable ecommerce growth through a stronger paid media strategy.
Hooded Owls, a UK ecommerce brand selling kids’ towels and bath treats, partnered with Atomic 12 months ago to manage their Google and Meta advertising.
Atomic handles both platforms end to end, from account structure through to ongoing optimisation and scaling strategy.
The business had recently made significant investment into its operations, moving to a bigger warehouse and increasing production capacity, putting it in a strong position to scale. They knew paid ads could help them reach their ideal customer, but needed a partner to make that scale happen efficiently.
Challenges:
Before working with Atomic, Hooded Owls had the operational capacity to grow but hadn’t yet built the paid media foundations to support it.
The challenge was to:
- audit and restructure accounts that were leaving performance on the table
- scale spend without losing efficiency
- build a Google structure that could capture demand across a wide product range
- build a Meta structure that matched creative to customers at the right stage of their journey
- balance volume driven growth on Meta against a more capped, efficient channel in Google
- grow overall conversion value while keeping CAC to LTV healthy

The Solution
Rebuild the foundations. Scale with purpose.
Atomic rebuilt Google and Meta from the ground up, then used each channel for what it did best: Google to capture high-intent demand and Meta to unlock the volume needed to scale.
As with all new accounts, Atomic began with a full audit of both Google and Meta, identifying structural gaps that were costing the business performance. Both accounts were then rebuilt from the ground up before scaling began.
On Google, this meant breaking the account down by product category to properly leverage search volume, alongside using YouTube Shorts to build awareness with new customers.
On Meta, campaigns were restructured around the customer journey, informed by analysing customer data in Shopify. This meant the right creative reached the right customer at the right point in their journey to convert.
Our approach included:
- full account audits and restructures across Google and Meta
- product category segmentation on Google to capture search demand
- YouTube Shorts for top of funnel awareness
- customer journey based campaign structure on Meta, built from Shopify data
- creative matched to journey stage rather than a one size fits all approach
- using Meta to drive volume where Google’s ceiling was more capped
- managing the mix so combined CAC to LTV stayed strong even as Meta’s cost per purchase increased

The Results
Over 12 months, the combined Google and Meta strategy generated £1.57m in conversion value, up 92.2% year on year, while purchases increased 95.8% to more than 38,000.
Google became a significantly more efficient growth channel, with conversion value rising 135% to £709k while cost per purchase fell 38.1%. Meta delivered the additional scale, generating £862k in conversion value and 21,000 purchases. Together, the two channels created a balanced growth engine that increased volume substantially while keeping CAC to LTV commercially sustainable.
